The theft of the Tapestry: the Nazis’ incredible scheme

As a tour guide and member of the Normandy Guides’ Federation, I am also a historian and the author of some twenty books on the Second World War. In October 2018, I published *The Theft of the Bayeux Tapestry, the Nazis’ incredible scheme’ with Tallandier, the culmination of two years’ work on the Third Reich’s interest in the famous thousand-year-old tapestry depicting the conquest of England by William, Duke of Normandy.
Drawing on this book, which has just been reissued, I came up with the idea of creating a walking tour of Bayeux – the town where I have lived since 2013 – centred on the history of the Tapestry between 1939 and 1945.
This walking tour through the historic heart of the town, illustrated with numerous period photographs, lasts around 1 hour 30 minutes. It is suitable for everyone. The tour starts in front of the tourist information centre and the total route covers approximately two kilometres.
At the end of the tour, there will be an opportunity to have my book signed.
