[Schools] Comic Strip Treasure Hunt: Life in Caen during the summer of 1944
June 1944. As Caen was rocked by bombing raids, the inhabitants sought shelter as best they could. Through a comic strip to complete, discover their story and that of the city.
Our treasure hunt begins with an insight into the lives of Caen’s residents during the Second World War. Through the eyes of young Colette, we recount the outbreak and subsequent development of the conflict. Colette’s story takes us through to the German occupation of Caen, and then to the long-awaited D-Day landings. On 6 June 1944, the people of Caen rejoiced. They thought they would be liberated the very next day. But the Battle of Caen would in fact last for many long weeks…
Working in teams, the young people then set off to discover the rest of the story as they explore the St-Gilles neighbourhood, guided by a comic strip to complete. This comic strip tells them the story of Colette and the places frequented by the people of Caen during the Battle of Caen. At each stage, a game involving observation, navigation or deduction enables them to gather clues about the mysterious place where Colette and her family hid during that long summer of 1944.
