Guided tour — Trouville-sur-Mer under the Occupation

“Trouville-sur-Mer, the queen of beaches who has lost her smile.” This is how one might sum up the atmosphere on 19 June 1940, the first day of four long years of German occupation. Four years of a harsh existence, marked by austerity, deprivation and oppression, during which the people of Trouville never ceased to hope for a return to freedom.

This guided tour delves into their daily lives: routines turned upside down, a beach transformed by the construction of the Atlantic Wall, and military projects such as Operation Seelöwe that shaped the landscape. It also pays tribute to those who refused to give in to resignation – members of the Resistance and those opposed to collaboration – who braved every danger to secure the liberation of the town and its region.

From the final months of the Occupation – a time of renewed hope and extreme caution – through to the long-awaited day of 24 August 1944, and on to how the town rebuilt itself: a tour to ensure that this little-known chapter in Trouville’s history – and those who lived through it – are not forgotten.
