Guided tour – Bathers' side
In 1825, the painter Charles Mozin discovered a modest fishing village… and fell in love with it. A few years later, the craze for sea bathing turned Trouville-sur-Mer into one of the most popular seaside resorts on the Normandy coast: artists, writers and the fashionable flocked there to enjoy the pleasures of the seaside.
This guided tour follows in the footsteps of these early holidaymakers. As you stroll through the streets, the guide explains how the town transformed in the 19th century to cater for this new clientele, and invites you to look up at the façades: villas, historic hotels, casinos and other iconic buildings of the ‘Queen of the Beaches’.
Combining architecture, anecdotes and little tales of seaside life, this is a convivial stroll to enjoy with family or friends, offering a glimpse into the atmosphere of the Belle Époque and its seaside bathing culture.
