But how can one write about a subject as sensitive as the planet’s current environmental crisis without sounding alarmist or heavy-handed? Julien asks this question—and asks himself the same thing. So he imagines a playwright and her troupe, distressed by the “catastrophic degradation of life,” pondering their next play, which is supposed to address this very issue.
Everyone then sets out to find actions and alternative solutions that are more joyful than punitive.
Proposals are made… but they don’t turn out to be very satisfactory. Realizing they cannot solve the problems on their own, the cheerful team goes to meet with specialists who might shed some light on the matter. They share the results of their investigations. We share their hesitations and doubts, their difficulties in thinking and acting together. We also laugh a lot at their blunders, because they’re a bit like our own.
Can we imagine the future without getting depressed? A tragicomic and incredibly stimulating theatrical oddity!
