Le Dôme 3 Esplanade Stéphane Hessel 14000 CAEN

A discussion hosted by Stéphane Durand, director of the Mondes Sauvages / Actes Sud series, with Frédéric Jiguet, Estelle Zhong Mengual and Pauline Peyrade (Associated artists)

A discussion exploring, at the crossroads of art, literature and research, how we coexist with living creatures in the city and in our imaginations. In the spirit of the ‘Mondes Sauvages’ series (Actes Sud), this dialogue invites us to take a fresh look at the world around us, from migratory birds to the unobtrusive creatures of our streets.

Stéphane Durand: A biologist and ornithologist, he has been involved as a co-author and scientific adviser on Jacques Perrin’s film projects since 1997. In 2020, he joined Actes Sud after founding the ‘Mondes Sauvages’ series. There, he heads the Science, Nature and Society division. He is the author of *20,000 Years* | works | Actes Sud and co-author, with Gilbert Cochet, of *Let’s Rewild France* | works | Actes Sud.

Frédéric Jiguet: An agricultural engineer, professor at the National Museum of Natural History, and researcher at the Centre for Ecology and Conservation Sciences, Frédéric Jiguet was for many years director of the Centre for Research on Bird Population Biology and coordinated all bird ringing activities at a national level. He is thus an internationally recognised specialist in bird migration and the evolution of bird populations in the face of climate change. He is the author of numerous books on birds aimed at the general public, such as “Long Live the Crows”, published by Actes Sud in 2024.

Pauline Peyrade (Associate Artist) is a novelist, playwright and head of teaching in the Writing Department at ENSATT. Her plays are published by Les Solitaires Intempestifs. She was awarded the Bernard-Marie Koltès Prize for *Poings* in 2019, the 2021 Grand Prix de littérature dramatique, the 2022 Ubu Prize for Best Foreign Play (Italy) and the 2022 Godot Prize for *À la carabine*. She published her first novel, “L’Âge de détruire”, in 2023 with Éditions de Minuit. It won the Goncourt Prize for a Debut Novel. “Les Habitantes” was published in January 2026 by the same publisher.
