Espace culturel Louise Colet rond point de la Victoire 27130 VERNEUIL D'AVRE ET D'ITON
Friday, February 12, 2027, at 8:00 p.m., at the Louise Colet Hall in Verneuil d'Avre et d'Iton, come and cheer on Xavier Beja of the Compagnie Théâtre en Fusion.
1940. After a sham trial, Jean Zay, Minister of National Education and Fine Arts under the Popular Front, a Freemasonand a target of anti-Semites, was sentenced by the Pétain government to “indefinite deportation.”
Imprisoned at Riom Prison, he was assassinated by the French Milice on June 20, 1944.
The account that Jean Zay wrote in prison (“Memories and Solitude”) offers us valuable insight into his visionary work and the tragedy of his fate—that of a man fighting against moral desolation. A powerful lesson in how to live in the world.
“Xavier Béja’s performance is deeply moving. A must-see show.” LA TERRASSE
