Theatre: ‘Le coup de la cigogne’ by Jean-Claude Islert

Good news never comes on its own… Jacques Germont, well into his sixties, is a man whose gruff and readily grumpy nature is matched only by his irresistible bad faith.

Today, after insulting his young boss, he finds himself on the brink of early retirement, his future hanging by a thread!

When he finally crosses the threshold of his home, still flushed with anger and his heart pounding, his wife, Maud, greets him with news that could make the walls shake: she’s pregnant!

At 60, being pushed towards retirement and thrust into fatherhood all at once is simply too much! However, beneath his grumpy exterior, Jacques is far from being a man without resources.

This play reveals the real storm brewing in this household, which has remained peaceful for far too long – and where the doors are set to slam for some time to come!
