Théâtre : l'arrière pays

The Tuesday 03 November at 20 a.m00

Boulevard de Normandie Le Cadran 27000 EVREUX

Here, in this setting, everything is like childhood. No family, no school—just a wonderland filled with multicolored stuffed animals and fantastical costumes, complete with a bouncy castle where you’ll run into teddy bears as well as Pikachu, Darth Vader, and Céline Dion. We play seriously. We’re having fun while we live. Yet there’s one major difference: the children are adults!

There are four of them—two female actors and two male actors—who look like ordinary adults, dressed in suits and ties, rather serious, but whose voices are those of little girls and boys… Their bodies are those of 30- to 50-year-olds, but their voices are those of 4- to 10-year-olds. They play, dress up, and imitate their parents. They are the knights in an imaginary battle; they have fun, quarrel, and get into mischief, of course, but they also ask questions and discuss things very seriously—theater, for example…

Lip-syncing creates a sense of instability, a comical disconnect that lends itself to confusion and… to a smile. In the course of a line, a situation, a remark that hits the mark—a child’s phrase coming from an adult’s mouth, or is it the other way around? It’s surprising, funny, and unsettling. It’s a game for adults that’s constantly creative. We laugh a lot seeing these “terrible children.” Four characters in search of childhood.
