%AB School just didn’t work out at all for Kevin. %BB Based on this firsthand experience, Arnaud Hoedt and Jérôme Piron, two former Belgian teachers, set out in search of explanations. Behind the well-meaning formulas and slogans, the superficial ambitions, the pedagogical efforts, and the sincere enthusiasm, we must face the facts and reality of scientific studies: equal opportunity is an illusion. The “Kevins” and the social determinism of which they are victims are proof of this… right down to their first names.
The two artists opt for a thought-provoking “side step”—a shift that is both relevant and irreverent. They play with and on words, offering interactive exercises. They confront public opinion (or, more modestly here, the audience) with the brutal reality of facts and figures. They debunk common misconceptions and expose their inconsistencies. They denounce the deafening silence and hypocrisy that accompany the system and keep it going. The message is well-researched, the format playful—the show hits the mark.
After putting the absurdities of the French language and spelling mistakes under their Belgian pitchforks, the two %AB colleagues %BB—advocates of the invariable past participle—continue to %AB put the audience to work %BB, drawing on %AB the boldness of the simple question %BB and a %AB naively necessary %BB approach. They maintain a fine scientific and artistic balance between a scholarly lecture and documentary theater.
Excellent work. Very satisfying results. Arnaud and Jérôme must stay motivated in order to remain at the forefront of the… stage.
