The play "Mary Stuart"
The Tuesday 19 January at 19 a.m00
Comédie de Caen – Théâtre d’Hérouville 1 Square du Théâtre 14200 HEROUVILLE-SAINT-CLAIR
It is a tale of a merciless struggle, a spider’s web woven from manipulation, about-turns and betrayals. The English court provides the backdrop for this cut-throat game, in which the male courtiers conspire against the two heroines of this drama, which has all the hallmarks of a hellish thriller. Between Mary Stuart, Queen of Scotland, held captive, and Queen Elizabeth I of England, the rivalry reaches its climax in this play by Schiller, based on real events. “Mary Stuart” is a political drama of the finest kind, delving into the inner workings of power and the religious stakes of a turbulent era. A tragedy with modern overtones and unexpected comic touches, this ensemble production—a costumed, chiaroscuro-style epic—brilliantly brings to life its plot and characters caught up in the turmoil of history.
