Solo(s) by Hervé Escario, photographer

The Thursday 29 October

Place de la Porte de Rouen 14600 HONFLEUR

In partnership with the Nomadzz Festival – Les rendez-vous du jazz

The life of a jazz musician is always closely linked not only to the sound of the band but also to moments of solitude. The Solo(s) exhibition captures these moments of grace when the jazz musician stands alone before their audience, seems to be talking to their piano, or hides away in the corners of a theatre to warm up their bass clarinet and shake off the nerves… ‘Solo(s)’ is a brief history of jazz that seeks to reveal how the intensity of the emotions felt by each musician gives body and soul to the band’s sound.

Jazz has always been a constant in Hervé Escario’s daily life since the age of 12, when he happened to put an Archie Shepp record on the turntable. His second artistic revelation came with the discovery of photographs by Josef Koudelka, Roy Carava and Marc Riboud. Photographing jazz musicians, as well as circus performers and dancers, in black and white then became a natural choice. Winner of first prize at Jazz World Photo in 2023 and 2025, Hervé Escario works regularly with jazz musicians (Emile Parisien, Henri Texier, Yoann Loustalot, Sylvain Rifflet…) on their album and press photos, and collaborates with numerous festivals (Tourcoing Jazz, Brussels Jazz Festival, Jazz in Marciac, Jazz en Nord, etc.).
