Show: “Josephine Baker – The Musical”

Her life is a novel, this show its radiance… The moving and celebratory musical journey of one of the 20th century’s most inspiring women, brought to life by a troupe of eight dazzling performers who make her come alive as if by magic.

Married at the age of 13, hailing from the black ghetto of Missouri, the young Joséphine arrived in France and became the icon of Parisian high society during the Roaring Twenties; she joined the Resistance and came to symbolise the great universal woman who was recently honoured at the Panthéon…

“Josephine Baker: The Musical” invites audiences to rediscover this dazzling artist, with her extraordinary talents as a dancer and singer, and a pioneer of hip-hop. This show also reveals the romantic life of this free-spirited and committed woman. We meet her partners (Gabin), her lovers (Paul Colin, Pépito), her husbands (Willie Baker, Jo Bouillon) and the heroes – like her – who did not hesitate to put their lives at risk to save Jews and thwart the Nazis’ plans. She campaigned against racial segregation throughout her life, joining forces with Martin Luther King Jr and adopting twelve children of all backgrounds to create her ‘rainbow tribe’.
