Musique : Chassol
The Thursday 10 December at 20 a.m00
Théâtre Legendre 27000 EVREUX
Chassol is one of the most prominent figures on the French music scene. Trained at the prestigious University of Berkeley, he rejects all forms of academicism and gives free rein to his diverse influences. For him, the distinction between the scholarly and the popular is dissolved in the name of a boundless passion for musical creation. Driven by boundless curiosity and energy, he has forged a new concept, dubbed “ultrascore,” a “harmonization of the sounds of reality.” He thus follows in a long musical tradition, from Steve Reich to Brian Eno. He applies this concept to his albums, films, and performances—all of which are musical journeys: to the United States with Nola Chérie, to India with Indiamore, to Martinique with Big Sun, and to Japan with Ludi.
With his new album *Funny How?*, he continues this work, this time focusing on the musicality of American stand-up comedians.
With formidable effectiveness, Chassol blends all the genres that inspire him: new soul, jazz, contemporary music, rap, musical theater… Using archival footage and sequences shot in New York and Chicago, he reveals their hidden notes, replaying and developing them throughout a fascinating process. The result is a major work—a choral and political narrative.
On stage at the Théâtre Legendre, Chassol at the keyboards, accompanied by a drummer, delivers a hybrid performance in which music and images respond to one another, creating a true dialogue. A unique, committed, and majestic experience.
