Doc Month 2026: Masquerades: Screening of Claire Second’s film
In the Bolivian Highlands, the residents of the village of Tomave grow quinoa and raise llamas. They dress up, sing, and laugh to call for rain, and throw firecrackers and confetti for Mother Earth. But agricultural engineers from the city are circling the village, determined to streamline their farming practices. This is the prelude to a strange masquerade.
In the presence of Marine De Contes, editor.
“(…) With great sensitivity and humor, Claire Second succeeds in helping us discover the power of their culture. In this film, which feels like a modern fable, the struggle isn’t just about punches and screams. We laugh heartily at the little man’s defiance of the giant. In a way, it’s the bowl of quinoa against the iron pot!” t%EBnk.com
