Come and discover and try your hand at drystone walling in this workshop, open to anyone aged 12 and over. Dry stone walling involves assembling natural stones, whether cut or uncut. The stones are arranged and held in place without mortar. It is their weight, their rough texture and specific building techniques that ensure the structure’s long-term durability.
Dry stone walls provide shelter, hunting or resting areas, and overwintering or nesting sites for a wide variety of species: insects, molluscs, amphibians, reptiles, birds, crustaceans…
Dry stone construction is a living heritage. UNESCO has inscribed the craft of dry stone walling on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
