Forum – 2026–2027 Season | Paths of Folklore by Florent Pujuila and the Normandy Opera Rouen Ensemble
The Tuesday 16 February at 20 a.m00
Forum – Théâtre de Falaise 2 Boulevard de la Libération 14700 FALAISE
Accompanied by the Ensemble de l’Opéra Normandie Rouen, Florent Pujuila’s clarinet explores the inexhaustible richness of the folk repertoire, which Eastern European composers have embraced with remarkable inventiveness. Folk dances, melodies and rhythms have infused their works, lending them that unique character—at once raw and refined—that we love so much.
For some composers, such as Béla Bartók, this inspiration even led to a meticulous study of musical traditions, laying the foundations for a new discipline at the start of the 20th century: ethnomusicology. Romanian folk dances are a vibrant expression of this, directly connected to the passionate energy of Gypsy music. Others, such as Sergei Prokofiev, found an inexhaustible source of inspiration in Jewish music. The clarinet – the emblematic and virtuosic instrument of the klezmer tradition – weaves a melodic thread of striking intensity.
