Exposition – "Parc Vivant 2026-2027"
The Monday 26 October at 07 a.m00
Parc de Flers Avenue du château 61100 FLERS
For many years now, the town of Flers has been presenting art installations in the château grounds, introducing visitors to works by contemporary artists.
In 2022, the town?s elected representatives and the museum?s team decided to expand the project by offering very large-scale installations. Every two years, a new artist is invited to exhibit his or her monumental works outdoors. Until autumn 2027, you will be able to contemplate three works by Lilian Bourgeat.
Extraordinary objects
Strange objects have appeared on the lawn of Parc de Flers. They are the fruit of the work of Lilian Bourgeat, a contemporary artist who encourages us to question the place of ordinary objects in our daily lives, and even more, our relationship with art.
By reworking familiar forms on an exaggerated scale, he is following in a long tradition of monumentality, from the great sculptures of antiquity to spectacular contemporary works. But today, this excess no longer has the same function as it once did: it no longer serves to glorify or convey a moral message. With his creations, the artist questions the meaning of this grandeur that has become almost banal, showing that it can still provoke reflection and astonishment.
His giant objects – be they tools, furniture or ordinary items – play on our perception. At once seductive in their realism and disconcerting in their size, they blur our reference points and create a gap between man and his environment. Behind their apparent simplicity lies a more subtle approach: to provoke confusion, to blend humor and reflection, and to show that these objects, however familiar, become unsuitable and strange when transformed.
“The spectator is often an integral part of the device, activating it and revealing the extraordinary.
