Exposition "Château de cartes. Un siècle de vues"
The Tuesday 27 October at 10 a.m00
Château de Carrouges Parc du Château 61320 CARROUGES
In 2026 and 2027, the Ministry of Culture will celebrate the 200th anniversary of photography. For the Château de Carrouges, these two years will also be marked by significant anniversaries. In 2026, the estate will commemorate the 90th anniversary of its purchase by the state, which brought an end to seven centuries of ownership by the same family and established its status as a national monument. In 2027, the château will celebrate the centennial of its designation as a Historic Monument.
These two dates mark the beginning of a long history of preservation and enhancement of the site. Numerous initiatives have contributed to its preservation: restoration of the entrance gatehouse after the Liberation, refilling of the moat and pond, restoration of the 17th-century gates, replanting of the tree-lined avenue, up tothe recent restoration of the state apartment in 2024 and the ongoing project to repair the roofs.
Set up in the park, the “Château de cartes” exhibition invites visitors to step back in time through fifteen large-format photographs from the collection of a postcard collector from Argentan. With these vintage postcards that bear witness to the estate’s evolution, it brings the memory of the place to life through a popular medium and reminds us that heritage sites are part of a collective memory, nourished by images and memories.
