Falaise (1944–1970): a town to rebuild, bonds to re-establish
Why not rediscover Falaise through its meeting places?
Centred on the theme of community spaces, this exhibition invites you to delve into the history of the areas rebuilt after the 1944 bombings, which lie at the heart of community life in Falaise. Schools, the covered market, the village hall… these are all iconic venues that played a part in the town’s revival in the 1950s and 1960s and which, in some cases, remain at the heart of local life today.
Covering both the Calvados region and Falaise itself, the exhibition brings together photographs (including a selection on loan from the CAUE of Calvados) and archive plans from the municipal collections, offering a thoughtful rediscovery of a heritage that is both familiar and little known.
