A rare insight into the exclusive world of horse auctions! Accompanied by a guide, the tour traces the history of the auctions in Deauville and follows a buyer’s journey, from inspecting the horses in the paddocks to their appearance in the ring.
It all begins in the paddocks, with the presentation of the sales catalogue, which the buyer consults to find key information about the horses on offer: pedigrees, bloodlines, performance records and race results. The horses, led out of their stables, are scrutinised in detail by the buyers before heading to the presentation ring. Here, visitors can see the horses being led by hand and observe how they move.
The tour concludes in the auction hall, a key stage of the auction, where everyone has a specific role. Here you’ll meet the auctioneer – the true conductor of the sale – accompanied by the auctioneer’s assistant, as well as the spotters, who, positioned around the ring, are on the lookout for the slightest gesture from buyers to spot a bid.
