Music & gastronomy: dinner and a show – Ages 12 and over

A chef from Marseille and an unpredictable cellist take around a hundred guests on a gourmet journey centred on bouillabaisse. Whilst Emmanuel Perrodin prepares the soup and tells its story, Noémi Boutin sings, plays and provokes. And four contemporary composers have written music for them that evokes the sea, the wind and spices.

Both have mastered the techniques of their respective arts. Emmanuel never tires of repeating that a dish – and bouillabaisse in particular – is far more than a recipe, far more than just ingredients. Just like music, in short. Bouillabaisse thus rests on two essential elements: the scorpionfish, that small rockfish which gives the soup its full-bodied flavour; and the winds that have dictated the day’s catch. All of this is therefore both utterly concrete and eminently poetic. It is around this poetics – which can also be playful, mischievous and surreal – that two female composers (Misato Mochizuki and Oxana Omelchuk), two male composers (Antoine Arnera and Aurélien Dumont) and a writer, Dominique Quélen, were brought together. Wordplay and linguistic games, electronic table music, melancholic sea shanties and breezy evocations rub shoulders with fish-like dialogues, dreamlike flights of fancy and spellbinding aquatic sensations, as the aromas waft through the air and appetites are whetted…

An evening blending live music, storytelling and conviviality, featuring pupils from the Notre-Dame de Nazareth catering college in Douvres-la-Délivrande. A unifying experience that transforms a night out at the theatre into a veritable celebration of food and the senses.
