They were born in Tunisia. They are women. They say they share %AB the same memories of childhood and adolescence%BB. They have crossed paths on several occasions. They recognize %AB a striking resemblance %BB. They play on this to hold up a mirror to one another, sharing the images it reflects. Twama: %AB twins %BB in Arabic.
Tunisia, France… Hélà Fattoumi and Sondos Belhassen have followed parallel paths, marked here and there by complicit convergences and fruitful, inspiring differences. Together, they explore this in-between space—a place of anxieties and rejections, a secret realm of riches and doubts that complement one another. A body-to-body encounter, a duet. Together, they suggest and imagine. Paradise… lost? Sought? Reclaimed?
%AB “Between reality and fantasy,” in a place that is neither Tunisia nor France, neither her nor me %BB, says Hela Fattoumi, who created the choreography. She continues the same quest she began with *Wasla* and *Manta*, two performances in which the shadow of her homeland—her “third character”—already loomed. Poetry, song, and music here complement the movement and more explicitly articulate her roots. The tone is not nostalgic but engaging and free. Like an invitation to discover and experience a joyful and generous sisterhood.
A production presented by Tangram, the national theater company
