Conference on funeral rites
The Saturday 07 November at 15 a.m00
10 Rue Elsa Triolet 14460 COLOMBELLES
In the Roman world, it was customary to take particular care of the dead. If funerals were not conducted in accordance with the required rituals, the
dead were unable to attain the status to which they aspired. In such cases, they did not hesitate to complain about it.
At the crossroads of the arts and archaeology, the conduct of funerals offers a window into the Romans’ imagination and beliefs regarding death and the afterlife.
Lecture by Vincent Hincker, archaeologist and head of the archaeology department at the Calvados Department.
