At the entrance to the Houlbec-Cocherel cemetery lies the grave of Aristide Briand (1862 – 1932). The former French Prime Minister, who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1926, acquired several properties in the village, including Ferme des Hulottes. After his death in Paris in 1932, Aristide Briand’s ashes were transported to Houlbec-Cocherel, where a tomb was created on one of his former properties, annexing the cemetery.
