Phare de Goury

Always surrounded by a white swell, more or less strong, the Goury lighthouse is enthroned at the very end, in Auderville. Fifty meters high, it was commissioned in 1837. Before that, in a single year, twenty-seven ships had sunk in the area. Opposite it is the Raz Blanchard, one of Europe?s strongest tidal currents. Between Cap de la Hague and the island of Alderney, the Passage de la Déroute is known to all sailors for its violent storms and strong currents. A brutal world, in stark contrast to the poetic world of Prévert, the neighbor across the way. the Raz Blanchard is a hostile world," says lobster fisherman Cédric. There are always waves, even on windless days
To see a storm off the port of Goury is an unheard-of sight. The waves raise bars of foam that turn the sea white. When it calms down, the landscape retains just as much power.
