Musée Villa Montebello

► Villa Montebello, Museum of Art and Seaside History
Built in 1865 by the architect Jean-Louis Célinsky de Zaremba, Villa Montebello has housed the museum’s collections since 1972. A true testament to the seaside history of Trouville-sur-Mer, it preserves and exhibits a rich variety of works and artefacts: paintings, posters, lithographs, drawings, manuscripts, objects and clothing.
The collections are organised around two main themes:
– the origins of sea bathing;
– the development of seaside resorts on the Côte Fleurie, a source of inspiration for artists from the 19th century to the present day.
As a museum of seaside art and history, the Villa Montebello Museum places particular emphasis on the fine arts, through works by painters, draughtsmen and engravers, ranging from the Romantic pioneers to 20th-century artists.
The collections also include numerous works by renowned poster artists, amongst whom is the famous Raymond Savignac, an adopted son of Trouville and a key figure in 20th-century advertising posters.
► The Villa Montebello Museum is getting a makeover!
Work is currently underway in the garden and around the Villa, and is set to continue until early 2028. But don’t worry: the museum remains open to the public, apart from its annual closure period.
So, even if you spot some scaffolding or building work, do pop in and discover the collections and the current exhibition!
