Méridien de Greenwich

Villers-sur-Mer marks the start of the Greenwich Meridian in Continental Europe and is the only French coastal resort to be situated on the Meridian.

In Villers, the spot that marks the Meridian was renovated in 2016 and is in the form of a line on the curved promontory on the central promenade just after the casino and of an illuminated line along the ground in the evening.

A simple way to locate the resort on any map of the world: Villers stands at the intersection between the prime meridian and the French coast.
One of the exhibition halls in the Paléospace l’Odyssée visitor centre focuses specifically on the Greenwich Meridian.
Within an intimate scenographic display, you can admire some fine maritime exhibits from the Paris Observatory and the visitor centre’s own collections.
