Les Alpagas d'Hélène
In Putot-en-Auge, Les Alpagas d'Hélène offers an animal interlude with a change of pace. Here, there are no fixed settings or remote visits. Set in lush greenery, the emphasis is on encounters, curiosity and the simple pleasure of getting up close to the animals. There's something very soothing about this discovery farm: grass, space, free-ranging animals and the feeling of spending a moment apart, far from the noise and very close to the living.
The visit is private and guided, which gives the tour a warmer, more embodied tone. Hélène invites you to discover 15 alpacas, as well as 20 Nez noir du Valais ornamental sheep, 3 pigs and goats. The animals roam freely in their own pastures, and you really get to meet them in the field, in direct contact with them. You observe, move slowly, enjoy the attitudes, the glances, the fleeces and the quiet presence that is the charm of the place. It’s an outing that will appeal to families, animal lovers and anyone looking for a gentle activity in the heart of the Normandy countryside.
The experience also plays on the memories that remain after the visit. Here, petting is part of the experience, as is the chance to take a photo with an alpaca, a souvenir that is as tender as it is delightful. The visit lasts an average of two hours, so there’s plenty of time to take in the sights and sounds of each species, savour the atmosphere and fully immerse yourself in this rural bubble. A practical tip is given on site: bring closed shoes, boots or trainers, to enjoy the visit in the best conditions.
At the heart of the estate, Hélène has set up a charming chalet-shop dedicated to the world of alpaca wool and handmade creations. Here, visitors can discover balls of alpaca wool, bracelets and a selection of carefully crafted accessories: hats, headbands, mittens and children’s clothing.
The shop also showcases the natural riches of the estate with wild gourmet products such as vinegar and wild garlic pickles.
Among the most original creations are the shamanic flower crowns made on vine stocks. They combine different plants and flowers, in particular mugwort, renowned for its benevolent properties, but also mimosa and other flowers grown on the estate.
Keen to pass on her expertise, Hélène also plans to organise felting workshops. This craft technique involves working wool with soap and water to make it denser and more resistant. Participants will be able to learn how to create durable and elegant objects such as hats, handbags and many other original creations.
Hélène’s Alpacas are seductive in their well-thought-out simplicity. This is not a place for the spectacular. It offers something better: a sincere encounter with endearing animals, in a natural setting, with time to see, talk and marvel. An address with a taste for tender discoveries and nature outings at grassland level.
