Le Pont du Coudray
20th century
The many hazelnut trees lining the Orne River on the road leading to the Val de Maizet viaduct at Amayé are the origin of the local name “Le Coudray”. In the Middle Ages, the ferry belonging to the seigneury of Douvres was frequently used by cattle traders. All that remains of the old bridge are its foundations, which are now underwater. Today’s bridge, a strategic point during the fighting in June 1944, was partly destroyed and now needs to be rebuilt.
