With 23 years behind it, some maturity can now be found in this garden nestling in the bocage in the shelter of a forest of oaks and beeches. Although only 10 minutes from Cherbourg it feels like another world, with indiginous trees juxtaposed with unusual ones, and a multitude of plants selected from all over the planet, to flower continuously through the year. This wide use of plant varieties is typical of an English garden, where human effort is most successful when it is indistinguishable from nature’s.
