The church Saint-Martin of Auxais called "cathedral des Rozs" was bombed on June 24th, 1944 by the allied aviation for its stratégic point of view over the marshlands.
At the end of the fightings, the City Council decided to preserve the church Saint-Martin as a ruin, in tribute to the victims of the 1944.
For the "anecdote", the church owes its nickname "Cathédral des Rozs" to its location. Indeed, this one is situated in the middle of reed beds, in the heart of the swamps of Cotentin. Rozs, in Norman dialect, means plants and others reeds used to cover thatched cottages.
