Awarded in the "French towns and villages in bloom" competition, Damville is a characterful little Norman town nestled in the Iton valley halfway between Evreux and Verneuil-sur-Avre. The remains of its feudal motte, located in the heart of the town, attest to its role as Norman fortress in the 11th century. Its church, listed a Historic Monument, its market hall, its wash houses and its elegant town houses offer a perfect setting for a walk.
Damville has probably been one of the sources of inspiration for Jacques Villon, whose birthplace is still visible rue de Verdun. This engraver and artist made an impression on his contemporaries with his talent in Cubism and Abstract Impressionism. It is also in their little house in Damville that Marc Cluizel, son of a baker and apprentice chocolate maker and his wife-to-be Marcelle, a confectioner, will start the Cluizel Chocolate Company.
Walking around Damville:
A heritage trail throughout the town takes you to see the main historic buildings and figures who made this little town famous. Brochure available at the Maison Cantonale (Impasse du Puiseau).

Visiting Damville with your family:
The Chocolatrium, Cluizel Chocolate Museum, has a display suitable for children (aged 8+) and tells the story of chocolate and anecdotes to learn while having fun (films, luminous information displays, your chocolate profile, my big chocolate bar activity, etc.). The Chocolatrium also organises cooking workshops suitable for children.
The Espace Loisirs de l’Iton is a big leisure park with two lakes that are at the centre of a wide range of activities for the whole family: cycle lane, playground, digital orienteering trail, pedal boats, canoeing, stand up paddle boarding, tubing, etc.
Enjoy a break in Damville:
Little shops, cafés and restaurants are located mostly on Rue Sylvains Lagescarde and Rue de Verdun.
The Espace Loisirs de l’Iton is the town' green lung. The site has picnic tables, petanque ground, fishing lake, fitness trail, etc. An ideal place to recharge your batteries in all seasons.
The weekly market in Damville is held on Tuesday mornings in Place de la Halle (market hall square).
