Boutemont Château and Gardens

Boutemont Castle and Gardens — A historic heritage site and remarkable gardens
Boutemont Castle and Gardens comprises a historic castle, a park and gardens offering a variety of atmospheres. The tour includes the castle’s three historic rooms: the Gothic drawing room, the lodge and the gallery.
Upon entering, a majestic avenue of cedars leads to the drawbridge and the castle’s postern gate. Hedge rows of boxwood and yew form a symmetrical composition, punctuated by two centuries-old cedars with imposing canopies.
Topiary accompanies visitors as they explore the château and its outbuildings. Hornbeam cones line the moat. A grassy path, bordered by boxwood and yew and punctuated by terracotta Medici vases, leads to one of the château’s turrets. The reflecting pool, designed by the landscape architect Achille Duchêne, is framed by beech and yew trees pruned in a Florentine pattern.
The route passes through several green spaces: the Italian Garden, the White Garden, the Zen Garden, the Ginkgo Garden and the Purple Garden. It continues into the Garden of Love, amongst the undulating boxwood, and into the park, where the feudal mound, the flowering apple trees and the rose bench are situated.
The Labyrinth Garden
Created in 2026, the Labyrinth Garden features a meditation labyrinth inspired by that of Chartres Cathedral and the oldest labyrinths in history. Its unique path leads to the centre, in a layout aligned with the cosmos. This space offers a contemplative stroll as well as a puzzle linked to the position of the stars above Boutemont.
New for 2027: a children’s play area
A wooden fort, complete with towers and a drawbridge, invites children to imagine themselves in the age of knights and to dream up their own adventures whilst having fun.
Bookshop, gift shop and café
The bookshop and gift shop rounds off the visit with a selection of books, local produce and souvenirs. L’Orangerie – a crêperie, salad bar and tea room – welcomes visitors for lunch or afternoon tea in the orangery, the greenhouse and on the flower-filled terraces.
