Algia Centre

Open to everyone, but designed particularly with children in mind, the Algia Centre is an educational and recreational facility that raises awareness and provides the tools needed to better understand the water cycle and the challenges associated with its conservation.

Located within the Touques Wastewater Treatment Plant itself to offer a more immersive experience, the tour explores the world of water in all its aspects – its nature, management and use, both in France and around the world – as well as the measures taken to protect it within the Coeur Côte Fleurie Community of Communes: wastewater treatment, drinking water production, rainwater management and the preservation of bathing water quality along the coast.

The tour is suitable for visitors of all ages and levels of curiosity! Interactive displays, hands-on workshops and large wooden sensory panels, featuring raised elements, encourage visitors to touch, handle and explore: lifting a hatch, rotating a component, moving a magnetic holder or pressing a light-up button reveals hidden information. A visitor booklet and the presence of a guide from the Centre Permanent d’Initiatives pour l’Environnement Vallée de l’Orne, an organisation specialising in environmental and sustainable development education and the promotion of local areas and heritage, support and enrich the experience, which focuses on the challenges of the ecological transition.
