La Bouille is one of those villages where time seems to have stood still. Much to the delight of the painters who made it their favourite place. We will take you to the banks of the River Seine, not far from Rouen, to discover the many charms of this village of 750 souls.
An inspiring village

The village has long been a source of inspiration. The Seine as a backdrop, the colourful half-timbered houses, the small art galleries and the medieval atmosphere all play their part. The writer Hector Malot, who wrote Sans famille, was born here. Famous painters such as Gauguin, Sisley and Turner followed in his footsteps. An impressionist reading table invites you to contemplate the Seine in the manner of Sisley.
How to get to La Bouille?

Coming from Rouen, cross the forest of Roumare and take the bac (a flat-bottomed boat) at Sahurs to reach La Bouille. In the distance, you’ll see the imposing figure of Robert le Diable’s castle. You’re also invited to go there in “slow mode” (gentle mobility). The “La Seine à vélo” route will take you there, allowing you to savour the scenery even more. Will you follow the route Rouen / La Bouille route or the La Bouille / Jumièges route? An equally enjoyable way to get there is to take a River Seine cruise from Rouen.
