La Grange des Vieux Etres
This former barn has been converted into a house by a couple of architects and landscapers. It is located near the village of La Perrière, just a few minutes' walk from the Forêt de Bellême. On the edge of a charming hamlet, it enjoys uninterrupted views and absolute peace and quiet. The barn is surrounded by a naturalistic garden, opening onto the surrounding fields. It is adjoined by a vast courtyard that is ideal for meals, outdoor activities and numerous bird nests. The interior features simple, unadorned materials: lime-rendered walls, black terracotta floor tiles, wooden furniture and doors. Large windows open onto the garden and surrounding landscape. The house offers simple comfort, sometimes rustic in winter when the stove needs feeding. Far from our usual lifestyle and comforts, here we invent new rituals for the duration of a stay. At the heart of the house, the living room features a large dining table, a well-equipped kitchen and two armchairs. Through the very large door of the former barn, you can see the garden, the fields and the forest in the distance. In the center of the room, the wood-burning stove heats the whole house. The library is the perfect place to work, read or take a nap among the books. Each bedroom has a double bed that can be separated into two single beds, and an en-suite shower room.
The large, unheated corridor serves as a workshop and laundry room, and gives access to the toilet. In fine weather, the barn doors are left wide open, and this corridor becomes an extension of the garden. The large table under the porch is ideal for organizing your meals. A second table under the trees lets you take full advantage of the garden. Armchairs are available for moving outside to suit the time of day. The house is designed to comfortably accommodate 4 people. A bench in the library can accommodate a 5th person if required. The house is heated mainly by the hand-fired wood-burning stove. Auxiliary heaters provide additional heat if needed. Beautiful walks and hikes are within walking distance of the house and the surrounding area. The house is just a few minutes’ walk from the Forêt de Bellême, on the “Tour des collines du Perche” cycling circuit. Numerous shops and restaurants are within a 10-minute drive. Several tourist attractions (historic villages, castles, gardens) are nearby. A welcome booklet with our best addresses and recommendations awaits you on arrival.
