Anne Sylvestre has never needed to raise her voice to be heard.

With her free spirit, her humour and her very own way of looking at the world, she has written songs that reflect who we are and stay with us for a long time. Tender, funny, sometimes serious songs, in which just a few words are enough to bring a whole life to life.

She has sung of women, their desires, their anger, their struggles, their contradictions. Those who doubt, those who stand their ground, those who speak out, and those whose voices are not heard often enough. Songs that stand the test of time because they speak of what still moves us: love, loneliness, injustice, the need to be free, and the joy of being together.

Heidi Varin revives this repertoire, accompanied on the piano by Sylvain Meyniac. No arrangements, no effects: a voice, a piano, and Anne’s words just as she wrote them. The focus is entirely on the lyrics, the melodies and the emotion they evoke. We encounter the witches and the others, the fragile, the stubborn, and all those characters to whom she gave a voice. We smile, we’re moved, and sometimes we recognise a little of ourselves in a chorus.
