Exposition au MAHB : “Tapisserie de Bayeux : Fragments d’Histoires”

Major events,

To 18/09/2022

In 2022, the City of Bayeux and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London are joining forces to celebrate the 150th anniversary of their collaboration, which gave rise to the very first photographic campaign of the Bayeux Tapestry. In 1872, this meeting also included a little-known diplomatic gesture, namely the return to the City of an original fragment of the thousand-year-old embroidery
This small piece of about 6 cm taken in 1816 by a British artist who came to make a watercolor reproduction of the linen canvas, freezes in time the state of the Bayeux Tapestry. Beyond the historical facts, this exhibition also presents the various scientific studies conducted on this piece of embroidery as well as the digitization of the glass plates, from the photographic cover of 1872, and their usefulness for a better knowledge of this universal masterpiece.
