Carreau de Livet, the last iron ore mine in Western France, presents wheeled and tracked engines brought to the surface along with a collection of miners' equipment. The visit includes the 'salle des pendus' (miners' cloakroom), the showers, the lamp store, the descent shaft that took miners 650 metres below ground level. A scenographic display entitled 'The subterranean worlds of Calvados' offers visitors a plunge into the centre of the Earth. Geological resources are presented in an educational yet recreational manner before a virtual tour of the mining zones. 15-minute film.
Free unaccompanied outdoor tour of mining equipment. Indoor tour from July to September, from 2.30 to 6 pm on Sundays.
