Born without glory, destined to the menial work of a cod-fishing boat, the Marité sailed through decades cheating a thousand deaths. It is now the last witness of a fantastic human adventure, that of deep-sea fishing on the banks of Newfoundland. Under restoration since 2006, the Marité work site opened its doors in 2009 at St-Vaast-la-Hougue. On the quay side, a village awaits all those who love boats and maritime heritage. Children and adults alike will discover the history of the Marité and the "Terre-Neuva" cod-fishing boats as well as the wooden shipbuilding trades. Accompanied by a guide, visitors will also have the chance to stroll on the deck of this outstanding boat.
