Great for cinephiles, Normandy hosts some of France’s most exciting, eclectic and ambitious film festivals. The annual Cabourg Romantic Film Festival has been going for 37 years, allowing film enthusiasts from all over the world to enjoy the very best of romantic film amid the picturesque seaside backdrop of Cabourg.

REVEL IN ROMANTIC FILM

Since 1983, filmmakers and film buffs from around the world have flocked to Cabourg to preview a selection of romantic films amid the glamorous setting of this upmarket seaside town.

Over four days, the Swann D’Or Awards are presented to the talent responsible for some of the world’s best romantic films – the trophy they receive is the shape of two entwined golden swans. The festival caters to all tastes, showcasing a range of romantic films from around the world. The Premiers Rendez-Vous category showcases up-and-coming young French actors and actresses, while the Panorama category features the latest romantic films, with an emphasis on music, love and sensuality.

If you’re a fan of romantic cinema, this festival is the perfect opportunity for you to discover unique new films, whether feature-length or short, French or international. Many screenings are followed by a Q&A session with the film’s director and/or production team. If you’ve always dreamed of rubbing shoulders with celebrities, head for the red carpet on the Promenade Marcel Proust, or if you are keen to learn more about cinema, literature and romantic music, attend one of the many conferences, debates and autograph signings taking place throughout the festival. When night falls, kick back and enjoy some of the best romantic films from the past year on lounge chairs overlooking the sea at the Ciné-Swann.

Cabourg is a picturesque seaside town on Normandy’s Flowered Coast, and once you visit, you’ll see just why the festival here focuses on romantic films! With a stunning sandy beach and relaxed vibe, Cabourg is a perfect getaway for those seeking calm. Admire the town’s half-timbered Belle Epoque architecture, regal Grand Hôtel and ‘Meridian of Love’, a unique art installation on the Promenade Marcel Proust celebrating love through 104 coins anchored in the ground, each representing a different language, and five columns, each representing a different continent, on which the word ‘love’ appears in each of these 104 languages.
