Ile Tatihou – St Vaast la Hougue

Nestled in Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue Roadstead, the Isle of Tatihou has known three centuries of remarkable events linked to its numerous vocations that were military (as can be seen with the fortified Vauban Tower), commercial, scientific and educational. Today, it is an exceptional site combining maritime heritage and nature preservation. To defend the kingdom's coastal borders, Vauban proposed creating citadels or strongholds, observation and defence towers. This is how the Towers of La Hougue and Tatihou came to be built after 1692. Every summer, the island plays host to its famous folk music festival, “Les Traversées”.
