VERNEUIL D'AVRE ET D'ITON

Verneuil d'Avre et d'Iton

Towns and villages of character

Pets accepted
A former border town between France and Normandy, Verneuil d'Avre et d’Iton will show you its treasures. Spared by the bombings during the Second World War, Verneuil d'Avre et d'Iton has lots of character. Its religious character is shown through St Madeleine's Church with its 56 metre-high Flamboyant Gothic tower and St Jean's and St Nicolas' Churches. The groups of Norman half-timbered houses and the elegant 18th century townhouses provide the town with even more charm. The Tour Grise is a medieval keep built by Philip II of France with "grison" stone, a red stone typical of the area. The moats of this former fortified town were filled with water diverted from the river Iton thanks to a man-made canal called “bras forcé”. Guided tours are organized upon request or on specified dates.
