Muséum Emmanuel Liais

Museums

A green oasis in the heart of the town, the Parc Emmanuel Liais – officially listed as a remarkable garden – brings together a most surprising and exotic range of heritage plants. As you follow the winding paths, you may come across a Jubea spectabilis, a Brazilian palm, a venerable Lambert’s cypress over 100 years old, exotic plants and trees brought back from his travels in South America by Emmanuel Liais, or imported from Asia in the 19th century. In the glasshouses, you will penetrate into the heart of a tropical rain forest, and cross a cactus desert to reach a glasshouse devoted to temperate–zone tropical plants. Take your children in search of mysterious plants like the tree with an edible trunk that can live 1000 years. The park is also home to the Emmanuel Liais museum, a treasure trove of curiosities including extraordinary collections of animals and objects. The park was awarded “Remarkable Garden” status in 2006 and “Eco Garden” at the end of 2012.
