Visitors can spend some time discovering the display areas, looking at the Second World War from a whole new angle. This expansion leading to a level of violence unequalled in the history of humanity. The major Pacific and European theatres of operation are documented and explained. These circuits pose important questions: the mass shootings of the holocaust, the characteristics of 'Total War', intimacy during wartime, the various human responses to the occupation, the liberation, the Nuremburg Trials… The Battle for Normandy is given its own, dedicated exhibition room. For the first time since its inauguration in 1988, the Memorial de Caen dedicates a major space to the landings of the 6th June 1944 and the liberation of Normandy.
