Jardins et Maison de Claude Monet

Parks and gardens

A source of inspiration. Claude Monet's property at Giverny, where he lived from 1833 to 1926, became the Claude Monet Foundation. His valuable collection of Japanese engravings is displayed in several rooms. The huge Nymphéas studio contains the Foundation's shop. The gardens have been replanted as they once were. From Spring to Autumn, the rectangular Clos Normand reflects the ever-changing palette of the painter-gardener who was "crazy about flowers". Lower down, a branch of the River Epte flows through the Water Garden, with its famous Japanese bridge, wisterias, azaleas and little lake, a jewel-box formed by sky and water that inspired the pictorial universe of the water lilies. Property listed historic monument.
