Jardins de la Petite Rochelle

Parks and gardens

La Petite Rochelle: ten gardens within a garden, ten sources of inspiration and atmosphere, ten different colour palettes in the undulating, secluded countryside of Le Perche in southern Normandy. The rich diversity of species – trees, shrubs, perennials and climbers – planted by Hélène d’Andlau over the last 35 years makes this a veritable botanical garden. Springtime means flowering magnolias, cherries and crab-apples followed by rhododendrons, wisteria, dogwoods, peonies, roses and clematis. Summer is the quieter season of hydrangeas, lilies and herbaceous perennials, and finally comes autumn, with its drifts of asters, autumn crocuses and flaming colours late into November. Pools and formal plantings with subtly placed openings give a framework to the whole space, which is sheltered by high hedges that show off the flowering trees and protect the garden from the prevailing west winds.
