Jardin des Plantes

Parks and gardens

One of the oldest gardens in Normandy, created during the Second Empire between 1852 and 1855, thanks to a bequest from the Quesnel de La Morinière family. The gardens offer a happy blend of French symmetry, English-style groves and Italianate terrasses. A collection of rare trees, superb floral beds, mosaiculture (bedding plants forming patterns) and a maze combine to make this the perfect place to stroll and dream. The Coutances botanical garden has been Grade II listed as a historic monument since 1992.
