Etienville Rectory and Gardens

Parks and gardens

Next to three historic monuments, this 5 acre wooded park extends from the 15th century fortified presbytery into the heart of the Cotentin Marshes, an exceptionally peaceful and bucolic spot. A magical walk through the midst of several gardens inspired by medieval designs: the garden of the monks (vegetables, medicinal and aromatic plants, decorative flowers), Marie’s garden (blue and white with a remarkable tree poppy and an olive tree in its centre), the banks of vines etc.. and also some stunning vistas, like that from the rose garden with the park wall of the castle as a backdrop, looking out over the orchard, the vines and the lake upon which two white swans glide by, or the view from the amphitheatre to the distant marshes, bordered by beds of rhododendrons, hydrangeas, camellias and harmoniouslycoloured shrubs. Before leaving don’t forget the Little Girl’s Vegetable Garden and the Curate’s Garden. Finally don’t miss two novelties at the castle: the completion of a French-style park and the creation within the park of a big “vegetable rose garden”.
